I rushed my first book of poetry. I was 25 years old, and I felt that I needed to prove something. I rushed it because I needed to say something. I need to say I have accomplished publishing a book. I wanted to make being a writer real and not a dream. So I rush. (I am even rushing as I write this blog. lol) I skipped key steps. I didn’t properly revise and edit. And like so many self-published anxious writers, I published a first draft of what could have been better text. I was so deep in The Rush. I have come to realize that it is of little use to rush life. It is easy to falling into the perception that, “I must hurry up and get there”. Perhaps, we examine the lives of others around us within our physical and digital lives and think…”wow, they are making moves. I need to be making more moves myself”. Or the ego has something to provide to the world and we seek validation of our worth through achievements and likes. This is where I sometimes find myself. Thinking I have to get there and fast. But where is there? . . .why so fast? . . . and why is there so much better than here?
There is underlining assumption that where one is existing in the present now is some how inadequate. This is where I place on my scholar cap to examine what I call The Rush. The Rush is an emotional state the results from outer pressure or influence to risk the quality and integrity of a thing or experience in order to reach a particular destination often before the appropriate time. Let me explain how this works.
There is an theory called Marxism which suggests that capitalism creates false needs due to the concept of alienation. Now, alienation can take place on multiple levels. One could experience alienation from nature; their family, friends, and community; themselves; and / or Spirit. (The argument could be made that any experience of alienation on any level is alienation from spirit.) What is often missing from our awareness that we are in an anxiety produced state which is The Rush. In The Rush we forget that all things are connected and that true power is within the now. That’s a mouth full, so let me explain.
Space and time are physical dimension concepts. In the spiritual and mental worlds that are directly connect and interpenetrating. Past, present, and future are all connected. What is to come is already on its way and what ways has ended is still here. And it is there here where meaning is created and opportunities exists. Now is the time to flex our mental and spiritual power by setting the highest vibrator intentions, seek and interpret messages from the creator, and to read the road signs and make adjustments to our physical realities. All of this requires a mental clearing which isn’t always available in the heighten emotional space of “The Rush”.
So on the road toward our greatness let’s smell the flowers and feel the wind on our face. Let’s not enter into spaces which could be described as “The Rush”. Lets take movements to Just Breathe and create experiences that are beautiful and meaningful to us, our loved ones, the communities we find ourselves in, and the planet.
